Responsible Gambling
A short, plain statement of how we run the casino floor inside PowerupDash, and where to turn if gambling stops being fun.
Entry 20+
The casino floor is restricted to guests aged 20+, the same as entry to the venue itself. Photo ID is required.
The casino floor at PowerupDash
PowerupDash is a bar and casino. Alongside the main room there is an adults-only casino floor off the side lounge — a gaming machine lounge, dealer-run table games and a poker room. What it runs and when is described on our casino page.
We advertise it as entertainment, because that is what it is. We make no claim about winning, we do not present gambling as a way to make money or to recover a loss, and nothing we publish is aimed at anyone under the entry age. If you would rather spend the evening on the other side of the doorway, that is an equally good night here.
Entry age
Entry to the venue and to the casino floor is restricted to 20+. Our door team check current photo ID for every guest, on every visit. There are no exceptions, including for guests who are part of a private booking.
Entertainment only
Gambling should be entertainment and nothing more. It is not a way to make money, it is not a way to recover a loss, and it is not something to turn to when the rest of life is difficult. If you choose to use the casino floor, treat the money you take in as the cost of the entertainment — decide it in advance, and stop when it is gone.
A few habits worth keeping:
- Set your limit before you start, not while you are playing.
- Never gamble with money you need for something else, and never borrow to gamble.
- Take breaks. Go back to the bar, get something to eat, talk to the people you came with.
- Do not try to win back what you have lost.
- Keep an eye on the time — it goes faster in here than you think.
- Alcohol makes every one of these harder. Be honest with yourself about that.
What our team do
Our staff are trained to keep an eye on the area and to step in when something does not look right. That means offering water or food, suggesting a break, declining further service, or quietly having a word if a guest seems to be chasing a loss or staying far longer than they planned.
If you want our help to stay within your own limits, tell any member of our team. You can ask us to remind you of the time, to point you back to the bar after a set period, or simply not to serve you in that part of the venue. We will take it seriously and we will not make it awkward.
If gambling is causing harm
Gambling harm affects the person gambling and the people around them. If you recognise any of this — spending more than you planned, hiding it, borrowing to cover it, feeling anxious or low about it, or arguments at home because of it — it is worth talking to someone.
Help is available, and asking for it early makes it much easier. Free and confidential gambling harm support services operate in New Zealand. Your doctor or local health provider can refer you, and our duty manager can give you the details of a support service in confidence if you ask at the venue. You do not have to explain yourself to us to get that information.
If you are worried about someone else, support services help family and friends too, not only the person gambling.
